La figura de Hugo Arévalo es clave en la historia de la videomúsica chilena: es el director del primer videoclip chileno hecho y derecho: "La lavandera" (1971), canción de Violeta Parra en interpretación de la folklorista y esposa de Arévalo, Charo Cofré. "Arriba en la cordillera", "La muralla" y "Vamos por ancho camino" son algunas de las muchas otras canciones fundamentales que realizó. Aunque ese arte aun no tenía nombre en el mundo, se trataba de videoclips (music videos), los que hoy son sin duda la piedra fundacional del género en Chile y, al mismo tiempo, auténticas joyas de la historia fílmica chilena.
