Artista chileno representante del surrealismo a quien le fue otorgado el Premio Nacional de Arte de 1990. Fue arquitecto de profesión pero también se dedicó a la filosofía, la poesía y sobretodo a la pintura y fue parte del movimiento surrealista de París junto con los artistas Salvador Dalí, René Magritte y André Breton.
